Letter GH

Letter gh is pronounced with the tongue in the same part of the mouth as for g, except that air is permitted to flow between the back of the tongue and the roof of the mouth, giving the sound a distinctive "raspy" quality. Although the gh sound does not occur in English, some learners find it similar to English r.
