Sounds of Tanacross

Letter Ą, ĄĄ

Letter , called "a-nasal", is pronounced like a except that air flows out the nose as well as the mouth. Tanacross, ą and ąą have the same sound, but ąą is pronounced for a longer time than ą.

Click on a video below to see and hear Mrs. Irene Arnold pronouncing words with Ą, ĄĄ.
ch'etą̌ą' leaf
ch'ąą potlatch food
mehk'ą̂ąy seagull
ąą yes
taatsą́ą' raven

The short letter ą is a rare sound and is not demonstrated on this page.
