Sounds of Tanacross

Letter O, OO

Letter o is pronounced as in English 'so' or 'wrote', and never as in English 'hot'. Tanacross o and oo have the same sound, but oo is pronounced for a longer time than o.

Note that Tanacross long oo is never pronounced as in English ‘boot’ or ‘book’. Unlike the other vowels, letter o does not have a nasal counterpart.

Tanacross o is a mid-back vowel [o]. Unlike the other vowels, it always occurs short.
